Bandra Fort is one of the biggest forts in Mumbai. It was built by European in 1640 AD.
After the seven islands of Mumbai were ceded to the British in 1661, the fort became an important check tower between the European held Salsette island and the British held island to the South.
The Marathas attacked the Fort in 1737 but unsuccessful to getting it. The Marathas subsequently conquered almost entire northern Konkan area.
Anticipating the consequences of Maratha gaiing control over Bandra Fort, British suggested the European destroy the fort rather than deliver it.In 1739,both the European powers blasted the Fort. Restoration of Bandra Fort is an attempt to change the heritage and historic legacy of the city.
